El quinto episodio de Game of Thrones incluye todos los elementos por los que nos gusta la obra creada por George R.R. Martin y la serie televisiva de HBO. Tiene una historia interesante, situaciones en las que los personajes no tienen salida y sangrientas batallas.
LEER +Uno de los fenómenos que cada vez se hace más común en la industria, tiene que ver con estudios encasillados dentro de una fórmula luego de haber tenido uno o dos grandes éxitos. Rocksteady apareció casi de la nada para revolucionar por completo el género de súper héroes, asunto que se terminó expandiendo hacia otros géneros, sobre todo al de los mundos abiertos no tan masivos pero muy bien controlados. Por supuesto que dicho caso perfilaba al extremadamente talentoso estudio inglés a caer en lo que ha llevado a muchos otros a la perdición. El hecho de haberme dado cuenta de que Batman Arkham Knight no es prueba de esto, sino de todo lo contrario, no podría alegrarme más. La nueva aventura del caballero de la noche nos demuestra que el dicho “si no está roto, no lo arregles” simplemente no aplica cuando las buenas ideas son legitimas.
LEER +Se terminó la espera. Luego de 14 años en las sombras, una de las sagas más queridas en toda la historia del cine popular, hace su regreso triunfal con Jurassic World, película que a pesar de ser una clara secuela a las tres entregas que habíamos tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar, se siente como un reboot de toda la franquicia. A pesar de tener huecos importantes en su guión y una carga de fan service que por momentos puede parecer innecesaria, la nueva cinta de Universal Pictures alcanza sus objetivos de manera clara y cumple con creces todo lo que se prometió.
LEER +Uno de los elementos más marcados que está teniendo la más reciente mutación de la industria, es el surgimiento del desarrollo de videojuegos en partes del mundo no tradicionales. Plataformas como Steam, Xbox Live y PlayStation Network, han permitido que pequeños estudios puedan incursionar en este complicado medio. Una de las regiones que más ha estado dando de qué hablar en los últimos años es Latinoamérica, en donde las propuestas e intentos por entregar obras de calidad, son cada vez más constantes. Como parte de todo este movimiento tenemos a Swordstales, estudio brasileño que se aventuró en crear Toren, juego que de primera instancia, luce como un videojuego digno de la atención de todos, pero que en poco tiempo, nos deja clara la poca experiencia de sus padres.
LEER +Una luz de esperanza llega para los Forrester, pero su pesadilla aún no ha terminado. El cuarto episodio del juego de Game of Thrones titulado: Sons of Winter nos presenta algunos de los momentos más complicados que hayamos vivido hasta el momento gracias a un excelente trabajo en el guión.
LEER +Los tiempos de desarrollo y costos en general de las súper producciones actuales, cada vez alcanzan nuevos límites, dejando claro que si la situación sigue por el mismo camino, éstas cada vez serán menos comunes. Todo lo anterior se agudiza de manera importante cuando hablamos de estudios localizados en partes del mundo en donde el diseño de videojuegos se encuentra dando sus primeros pasos. Luego de un largo tiempo de trabajo que estuvo muy cerca de entrar en el famoso “development hell”, el estudio polaco CD Projekt RED, consiguió sacar adelante su proyecto, mismo que no pudo haber tenido mejores resultados. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt no solo es el mejor RPG que he tenido la oportunidad de jugar en varios años, sino una de esas obras que te recuerdan por qué es que amamos este medio de entretenimiento tan especial.
LEER +El tema de que el mundo se termine y que la sociedad como la conocemos desaparezca para siempre, ha sido algo que nos ha fascinado desde hace ya muchos años. Por supuesto que lo anterior ha desembocado en un sin fin de películas genéricas y sin alma que tan solo han ensuciado lo conseguido por varias de las mentes más brillantes en toda la historia del cine. En 1979, George Miller nos presentó su interpretación del género, dándole un giro fresco y que muy pocos vieron venir. En este 2015, el afamado director regresa en toda su gloria con Mad Max: Fury Road, cinta que de manera resumida y un tanto efímera, te puedo decir que funciona casi a la perfección de principio a fin.
LEER +La industria se encuentra en uno de los puntos más complicados de su historia. Los modelos de negocios que se creían dominar, cada vez son menos relevantes, pues cierres de grandes estudios se han convertido en cosa cotidiana. Las súper producciones triple A simplemente ya no son viables, esto gracias al nacimiento y desenfrenado crecimiento de cosas como el famoso free-to-play. Sumado a todo lo anterior, desde hace unos años, la tendencia llamada crowdfunding, se ha robado los reflectores, pues varios de los desarrolladores más reconocidos de todos los tiempos, han optado por llamar directamente a sus fanáticos para sacar adelante tal o cual proyecto que ya no es apoyado por los grandes publishers. La realidad es que la mayoría de las veces vemos Kickstarter inundado de autentica basura, sin embargo, existen otras en las que esta plataforma se convierte en cuna de autenticas maravillas de nuestros tiempos, como por ejemplo, el sensacional Broken Age.
LEER +Llegó el momento de hacer un viaje en el tiempo, aproximadamente 20 años al pasado de los videojuegos, hacia una época en la que el género de aventura tipo point and click era popular en la PC. Es justamente desde aquella época, que el juego Tormentum: Dark Sorrow llega hasta nosotros, con un diseño visual impactante basado en la obra gótica de grandes artistas como H.R. Giger y Zdzislaw Beksinski. Pero además, también recibe grandes influencias de uno de los juegos de culto del género, me refiero por supuesto a Dark Seed.
LEER +El desarrolló japonés se encuentra en verdaderos problemas. La mutación del mercado ha sido tan violenta, que ni siquiera las empresas más importantes de aquella nación están sabiendo cómo sobrevivir a los nuevos retos de la industria. A pesar de esto, aún existen algunos exponentes que buscan atacar a nichos de mercado muy específicos, asunto que en algunas ocasiones, queda lejos de impulsar el diseño hacia nuevos horizontes. Bladestorm: Nightmare es perfecto ejemplo de todo lo anterior, pues es un juego que se queda increíblemente corto en todo lo que intenta.
LEER +A lo largo de toda su historia, esta famosa franquicia de disparos en primera persona, ha sufrido de bastantes cambios en busca de una identidad que la distinga de los cientos de títulos con los que compite dentro del género. Después de lo bien que salió el experimento con Battlefield 3, el cual, además de convertirse en uno de los juegos que mejor se veían en su tiempo, aportó importantes cosas que se habían perdido con el paso de los años. Por alguna extraña razón, Electronic Arts decidió darle un nuevo giro a la serie, entregándonos Battlefield: Hardline, obra que se pone objetivos bastante mediocres que por supuesto, alcanza con facilidad para quedarse en justamente eso, una experiencia muy mediana que rápidamente pasará al olvido.
LEER +El tema de la escena independiente y estudios muy pequeños desarrollando en consolas, ha tomado mucha fuerza durante los últimos diez años. Antes de que todo este boom ocurriera, Microsoft fue de las primeras empresas en abrir ventanas para que estos desarrolladores pudieran publicar sus obras. Dejando un poco de lado toda la polémica que hubo por las severas políticas de exclusividad por parte de los creadores de Windows, la realidad es que gracias a ciertas negociaciones, hemos tenido autenticas maravillas como Limbo, FEZ o Super Meat Boy. A pesar de no ser tan constante como su más cercana competencia, normalmente cuando un juego de este tipo llega a plataformas Xbox, nos llena el ojo por completo. Ori and The Blind Forest es un título que brilla intensamente en cada uno de sus apartados, siendo muy probablemente, lo que más he disfrutado en este 2015.
LEER +Los cambios y metamorfosis que está sufriendo la industria, ha causado que varios géneros -muchos de ellos clásicos-, comiencen a desaparecer, esto gracias a que los gustos del mercado simplemente no se ajustan a ellos. Uno de los que está atravesando por todo lo anterior, es el de combate aéreo. Sin lugar a dudas, los juegos de Bandai Namco cargaban con la insignia de este tipo de diseño, convirtiéndolo en uno de los muy pocos publishers que siguen apostando por lo que saben hacer mejor.
LEER +Desde que la industria despegó a principios del siglo XX, Hollywood nos ha contando un sin de historias sobre héroes americanos, siendo la mayor parte de ellos, guerreros incansables que siempre estuvieron dispuestos a darlo todo en nombre de la libertad y justicia. Clint Eastwood regresa como director para entregarnos American Sniper, cinta bélica que nos narra parte de la vida de Chris Kyle, el francotirador más letal en toda la historia militar de Estados Unidos. La película cumple prácticamente con todos sus objetivos, no obstante, sufre de manera importante en el tema de los clichés.
LEER +Los controvertidos Hermanos Wachowski, creadores de la saga de Matrix, están de regreso en las salas de cine con su nueva película de ciencia ficción titulada Jupiter Ascending (El Destino de Júpiter en México), protagonizada por Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum y Sean Bean. Aquí te contamos si vale la pena ver esta cinta o no.
LEER +La situación que se vive actualmente en la industria es por demás compleja y por supuesto, muy polémica. Nuevos modelos de negocios que muchas veces condicionan al diseño de tal o cual videojuego, inundan a los principales estudios, esto a pesar de que aún no están probados. Puede que todo este escenario pinte de los más obscuro y negativo para muchos, sin embargo, nuestro amado pasatiempo sigue teniendo luces verdaderamente brillantes que llegan a alegrarnos la vida. Grim Fandango Remastered no solo es un tributo y una celebración para este medio de entretenimiento, pues funge como uno de los argumentos más fuertes para poder llamar a todo esto, arte.
LEER +Desde hace ya varios años, el cine de horror ha sufrido bastante, pues la fórmula para llevar historias a la pantalla grande que sean dignas del público que asiste religiosamente a verlas, cada vez se siente más desgastada. Apostando por una narrativa tradicional llena de errores y huecos, The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death falla de manera rotunda cada uno de sus objetivos, convirtiéndose en una cinta completamente olvidable que no merece la atención de nadie.
LEER +El día de ayer domingo 11 de enero por la noche, se llevó a cabo la 72ª entrega de los Golden Globe Awards, premios entregados por la prensa y crítica especializada extranjera en Estados Unidos a lo mejor del cine y la televisión. Dicha gala sirve como preámbulo a lo que veremos en unos días más cuando La Academia entregue los famosos Oscar. Birdman del mexicano Alejandro González Iñárritu, se llevó varios importantes premios.
LEER +Los que ya jugamos Destiny sabemos que el principal enemigo del juego es la raza Vex, no solo la segunda mitad del juego se basa en acabar con ellos, también tenemos el raid 'The Vault of Glass' en el que encontramos lo mejor de estos enemigos. En el caso de The Dark Below, el juego se enfoca en la raza Hive, extraterrestres de tres ojos, agresivos y muy enfocados en lanzar hordas de decenas de esbirros rápidos y dispuestos a desgarrarte entre todos.
LEER +Desde hace ya varios años, el cine bélico ha ido perdiendo terreno. Por un lado tenemos que muy probablemente, las buenas ideas en Hollywood se han ido agotando, y por el otro, está un público cada vez más sensible a lo cruda y violenta que ha sido nuestra historia reciente. Las cintas ambientadas en tiempo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial son constantes, sin embargo, aquellas que relatan las vidas de los combatientes y los duros días que tuvieron que vivir, cada vez son menos. Fury se levanta como una de esas películas que ya casi no vemos, desperdiciando una gran oportunidad para revivir un subgénero que muchos de nosotros disfrutamos.
LEER +Durante los últimos meses, la tensión entre el gobierno de Estados Unidos y Corea del Norte, ha sufrido de varios altibajos. El más reciente de ellos se dio durante los últimos días de este 2014 gracias a una película. The Interview tuvo que pasar por una enorme polémica para por fin ver la luz del día. Gracias a todo esto, se crearon enormes expectativas de lo que sería el largometraje protagonizado por Seth Rogen y James Franco, las cuales, no se pudieron alcanzar de ninguna manera. La cinta no es mala en general, sin embargo, pierde el rumbo con mucha facilidad, apostando por situaciones extrañas que sienten fuera de lugar y sin fundamento sólido.
LEER +Hablar de Hatsune Miku ya no es hablar de una pieza más de tecnología, ya ha rebasado los límites de la popularidad para convertirse en un fenómeno mediático de clase mundial, mismo que incluye videojuegos, música, figuras, productos de publicidad y mucho más. Su alcance ignora fronteras e incluso ha llegado a programas mainstream de Occidente como The Late Show con David Letterman en Estados Unidos.

LEER +Cuando escuchamos hablar de Ridley Scott, seguro vienen a nuestra mente grandes clásicos de ciencia ficción como Blade Runner o Alien; no obstante, el director inglés siempre ha mostrado un gran interés por los épicos de historia. Muestra de ello, fue su trabajo en cintas como 1492: Conquest of Paradise, Kingdom of Heaven, y por supuesto Gladiator, que en su momento marcó el regreso a las producciones monumentales de época.
